The Princess of Wales's Traditional Yuletide Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will hear a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as award-winning actors.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The princess has been making her own gradual return to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians backed by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
